JEFFY its been a long time :) prob dont remember me, never really knew each other IRL to well

this is absolutely a wild surreal thing to realize this has been resurrected

I don't know who revived this from the tomb and i dont care, this has officially made 2024 one of the greatest years in a long time!

I cant wait to hopefully join a new band, see many shows, and meet new people!

Couldn't agree more, this was a quint essential site for me as well, it was the sole cause of me joining all the bands i played in, all the shows i went to/heard about/played.

I have always said that ever since the site went away that the music scene in guelph went along with it. no where else to really have a central location to organize and facilitate the scene.

This site was my homepage all through high school. Now all we need is to rent the basement of Western from Bob and resurrect Shadow.

I was just talking about how I would love to get a group of people together and do a one weekend nostalgia show at the shadow from Friday to Sunday and then I find out this site is back up and running. 2024 is shaping up to be the best year yet.

what happened to the shadow? i know the dirty dip got renovated, but i never heard what happened to the shadow, is it still a bar of some kind or just a empty basement?

A show at Shadow is not possible.

I worked at the pub The Dip turned into, Western Hotel, for a stint and saw the basement (half the reason I took the job was to). You'd be heartbroken. Here's the facts and the rumours.

Facts:
• there's an office down there for the pub managers and owner Bob (who's part of Partytown aka Trappers/Palace and is a real piece of work)

• there were some renovations done (some new flooring, paint job, some things gutted, rooms repurposed etc) but the back rooms and washrooms are in even more shambles the they were when it was open.

• the rooms behind the bar area are used for a cold cellar for food for upstairs and dry storage for supplies

• the main show area is used for storage and has so, so much stuff in it. It's barely recognizable as the place we knew.

• it is not set up for any kind of speaker/ amp system, the bar isn't there.

Rumours:
• it's used for illegal high-stakes poker sometimes by a guy named Tony. Unconfirmed but wide, wide spread rumour.

• at some point it was going to be a venue early on, but when the opportunity to make The Dip Western Hotel came up it was nixed for unknown reasons, presumably money

dang, well yeah it would be stupid for them not to repurpose the basement area for utilization. i didn't really expect anything less.

We could always do what they did for the 519 punk Reunion show at riverside park when RAWG played (gwar unmasked RIP dave.) It is even another "reunion" as well :P

Im so stocked that i was actually able to see them play before he passed away, i even got to sing with them at the end for Sick of you.
